Celebrate Singledom Chicago-Style

Do you have a friend getting over a breakup or a divorce? Give your buddy a party she won't forget with this jailbreak themed party to celebrate her new singledom in a way that will uplift and tickle her spirit!

This theme is based on Chicago, the broadway hit, about women grandstanding in court and dreaming of stardom as they try to gain their freedom from jail.

Use red and black for your predominant colors when decorating (i.e. red tablecloths, black plates, etc). You can get metallic red fringe door curtains from any party store. Place burgundy votives and silk rose petals on tables.

Serve Chicago-style hotdogs with zesty radish and other toppings. This could create a mess, so consider serving pigs in a blankets and miniature pizzas as an alternative. Serve up nice cool brews and cocktails to wet your guests' whistles!

If you want the "gal" of the hour to break some Roxie Harts, have her stand out with this ball and chain wristlet from Party City. Have one of her best gal pals or hostesses give an inspirational speech during, which the lady can "break free!"

In the musical, the ladies dreamed of stardom, so let's make the guest of honor feel like a star with a red carpet lined with mini tap lights. You can also get a strobe light for paparazzi effect.

Keeping with the theme of the party, play upbeat jazz mixed with contemporary music. You could download all those ballads about being left and not crying but how would that cheer up your friend? Get the party started by downloading these empowering uptempo songs (these are some of my faves, but you can google "Revenge Songs" and a plethora of songs should come up):
"He Had It Coming" from the original play
"All That Jazz" from the original play
"Labels of Love" Fergie
"I Choose" India Arie
"Hater" Jill Scott
"These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" Nancy Sinatra
"Never Again" Kelly Clarkson
"Cry Me a River" Justin Timberlake
"Say My Name" Destiny's Child
"You're So Vain" Carly Simon
"Survivor" Destiny's Child
"Be Ok" Chrisette Michelle
"Used To" Lauryn Hill
"Smile" Lily Allen
"Before He Cheats" Carrie Underwood
"Hit 'Em Up Style" Blu Cantrell
"One Way or Another" Blondie
